Three ways of manipulating an abdominal CT using the Leap Motion Controller, keeping in mind that the main use is to allow “scrubbed” doctors to see images without touching anything:
1. Using Osirix, running Touchless for Mac. “Advanced” configuration allows “multi-touch” manipulation on Osirix. Single finger for left-click (default is windowing) and multiple fingers for scrolling, zooming and rotating. Problems encountered during MPR and VRT.
2. Using Siemens Syngo.Via Client, running AirInput. Single finger configuration. Edge action defined as “drag”, allows single-finger dragging of reference lines in MPR. Edge actions coded to shortcut F5 – F9, allows window change to soft tissue, lung, bone, etc. Multi-finger also works (eliminates need for edge action for drag), but difficult to “grab” the reference line.
3. Sectra Visualization Table, running Touchless for Windows. The Sectra table is inherently “touch-capable”, with all actions performable by multi-touch. The Touchless app translates finger gestures directly to the touch engine in Windows 7, which makes image manipulation almost effortless. Problems encountered during MPR as the MPR windows are a little too small to fit the 3 fingers necessary to scroll.
Conclusion: The Sectra Visualization Table is the most effortless, but not widely available. Syngo.Via and Osirix, which are more widely available, are also compatible with the Leap Motion Controller.
